December 2019 Update
Citizen Impact had a great year in 2019! Thank you to everyone who supported us! In February, our Pastors & Ministry Leaders’ Day was very well-attended. Governor Kemp spoke, as well as the Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, and many state legislators. We also had two well-attended Student Legislative Days in February.
During the summer Citizen Impact had two interns serve for 8 weeks. These paid internships gave two young men great experiences, including going to Washington, DC for several days. They also helped us prepare for our Annual Conference in August, which was one of the best. At the event we had a great line-up of speakers, who did a great job.
Cory and I made two trips to Washington, DC where we lobbied against the Equality Act and garnered support for school-choice legislation. On the state level, we coordinated with other pro-life groups here in Georgia to help get the LIFE Act passed – Georgia’s Heartbeat Bill. We also protected Christian schools when we convinced a state senator to remove private schools from his bill that would have infringed upon the autonomy of religious schools.
When the Georgia General Assembly goes into session in January, we will be focusing on the Religious Freedom Restoration Act (RFRA), which Gov. Kemp has promised to sign. Click here for a helpful video explaining RFRA. We have also spoken with several legislators about introducing legislation to protect student-led prayers at public schools, and we will continue to fight against the expansion of state-sponsored gambling.
