Legislative Update – February 8, 2024

The Georgia Senate passed Senate Bill 386 on February 1. Although this bill attempted to legalize sports betting without a constitutional amendment, it was amended before the final vote and now *requires* a constitutional amendment before it can be enacted. By adding this requirement, a separate piece of legislation must pass by a 2/3 vote in both the House and Senate and then get approved by Georgia voters.… Read the rest

Monday, January 8, 2024 was the first day of the second half of the two-year legislative session, and the General Assembly is off to a fast start!

December 2023 End-of-Year Update

We are grateful that Citizen Impact had a strong year. Our Pastors & Ministry Leaders’ Day in February was well-attended and, once again, Gov. Brian Kemp spoke. We also re-started the Student Legislative Days for the first time since 2020.

At the Georgia General Assembly there was a hard push to legalize sports betting here in Georgia, but we (along with other like-minded organizations) were successful again stopping any expansion of state-sponsored gambling.… Read the rest
